boiler sizeing

No. But if changing any rads at the same time go as big as you can.

Is this standard advice nowadays? I've used a couple of different sites to calculate BTU requirements and am looking at radiators a couple of hundred BTUs over what they come up with. Are you saying I need to be going for thousands higher?

Remember no more than 17.6kw down a a 22mm pipe, can't argue with physics
But your physics is assuming a differential of 11C at the boiler. If you are using a boiler designed for a 20C differential, the flow rate is approximately half; so the same 22mm pipe can now carry 32kW.

It always amazes me how someone can install central heating & not understand the principles of 'Delta T' & 'Delta P'!!! All you need to do is look at 'heat carrying' capacities chart for copper or plastic tube.

Water is a wonderful medium for carrying heat or storing heat. A 22mm tube can carry as much heat as a 1ft2 air duct.

We work in a wonderful trade, but know the physics of it, it's not hard - so don't be an rsole all your life!!.....

A 22mm pipe can carry 40kw @ a velocity of 3 m/s. (10dt) .....or 80 kw @ 20dt ;)

Noise may be an issue though.....

Will stop there as don't want to get onto the subject of low loss header sizing.

srhawksy, the ccr is available to all members of the combustion chamber. Read the FAQ in that section and you'll find out how to get access.

If you're not in the CC then I'm afraid you can't get access.

24kwatt boiler under ideal cold mains flow rate will give a lesser flow rate at the hot water tap than a 30kwatt boiler. Simples.
