Hi Folks,

I presently have an Open Vented heating System. I am looking to convert this to gas. I ideally do not want to have the boiler in my kitchen as that adds un-necessary pipework.

I would rather have it where the hot water tank resides. My heating system is an Indirect One so the tank is also on the same run as the radiators.

Is it possible to remove the Hot Water tank and swap it directly for a gas boiler with minimal effort?

My idea is that If I remove the long two pipes that run to the boiler and 'Tee' them off so that the radiator on the first point of call run is actually the last on the system.

And down stairs the last radiator would stay the same.

Is this at all possible?

What I am basically asking can i just remove the HW Tank and install a gas tank using mostly existing Rad pipe work including taps.

I do have an engineer willing to 'Install Only' e.g. Flue / Gas / Mains and allow me and a friend to take over the 'Wet' side of the system.

Any advice would be great.

I dont really understand what you want to do. Anylthing is possible but if it is a good idea is another matter!

My suggestion is that you engage your engineer to help you with the design aspects. Being on site enables the whole picture to be seen!

What I am simply wondering is can a Oil System with essentially a Flow and Return pipe have two dead ends?

Imagine if today I cut the two pipes to the boiler and caped them off. And Installed the boiler where the hot water tank was. Would the system cope since I am not in enssence daisy chaning the radaitors and infact have a T Bend in them?

Are you sure your diagram is right?

If it is then you must frazzle in the summer when you need hot water as all the rads appear to be on the same circuit.

Yes.

Yes. If you are installing a combi then you need to think about the old open vent pipe and cold feed/pump etc. It`s difficult if you are completely a novice (wait for muppets comments) Your old flow from boiler to cylinder now reverses and you have to take out pump, hard to put down unless you pay me lots of money for my time to be honest.
