Hi. just wondering if anybody could help as not certain if all these problems are connected or if I am just having a run of bad luck.

Around 6 weeks ago I had a leak in my hot water cylinder which flooded through the ceiling. The system was drained down partially and isolated, leaving us with cold water but no heating or hot water.

Fast forward 5 weeks and I eventually got somebody in to replace the cylinder. It was replaced with a telford 1050x400 cylinder as a direct replacement. When the old one was disconnected there was still some water inside which again leaked, and in the process of removing it the electric box in front of the cylinder was damaged (since been replaced and the wiring redone)

When the boiler was fired up again there was an issue and all the electrics tripped, with the installer saying the ch pump had seized and needing replacing. This was done and now we have heating and hot water.

Since then the following has happened.

No water comes out of the shower at all but it was working before the cylinder leaked. Been in the attic and the isolation valves to the pump are open (salamander ct75 twin pump) and there seems to be power going to it (cable has been checked and lighting up)

My freezer still has power going to it when it is plugged in however it has now stopped freezing anything and so thinking it will need replacing

Gas double oven now has no gas coming to it and is not igniting. When it is turned on the lights inside usually come on however they are not working either. However the gas hob is still igniting and working.

Smiths under cooker heater blowing out cold air however not hot air.

Electrics repeatedly tripping out, usually when trying to light the cooker but also other times.

Sorry for the long post but wanted to try and give all the info. Due to the amount of stuff going wrong wondering if it is all connected however maybe im just having a lot of bad luck.

Any advice?

With regards to the shower pump, try running the shower with power to the pump switched off. Remove shower head, aim hose downwards and try to run hot and cold individually.

Doing this might expel any air trapped in the system.

cheers for that.. will go and have a look and see if that does it. although I have a mixer shower rather than individual hot and cold so do I just turn it through hot and cold

squeaky.. you have no idea how happy you have made the wife...shower is now working fine, no need for a new pump now as originally told and can finally get a shower at home for the first time in 6 weeks. any ideas on the other stuff.

yes just turn it through hot and cold, did you tell your plumber that you had a plinth heater, if not he will not have bled it when he filled your system back up.

As for your electrical problems it does seem an awful coincedance but cant think of how they could be linked unless when the electrics in the cupboard were damaged it has shorted and caused damage else where

Hi ianmcd. no didn't tell him about it, to be honest forgot it was there as very rarely used it, the problem with that may have been there before but as I've noticed it since thought I would put it on. will have a look how to bleed it and get it done.

like you say we cant work out how it might all be connected, it just seems strange as never had any problems with any of the stuff beforehand and now its all gone at the same time

At least I don't need a new shower pump now I don't think, shower is running fine and I have turned the power back on to the pump and its still working.

Just a thought but you said they repaired the electrics you may have reversed polarity on one of your circuits which could account for your gas oven not working not sure if that would affect your freezer though

Just a double check on your oven though, if you havent reset the clock since the power was switched off the oven wont work same if you have mistakenly put it to auto, I would check that first

usually you just use the same key that you would bleed your radiators with and there will be a bleed screw at the top of the heater

as you can probably guess I am learning as I go with this one. the box was damaged for the wiring around the cylinder. he has replaced this with a new box and had to wire it in. not certain if he had to make any changes to the electrics but could wiring it back in cause the reverse polarity

As for the cooker the clock was reset but it has tripped another 2 or 3 times at least so had to keep resetting it. All I have done to my knowledge is put the timer back to the correct time, how would it have been put in auto mode and what would that do...will try and dig out the manual rather than have you explain everything to a novice if I can.

cheers

all makes vary but if you have set the timer then the oven will only work at the times you have set it to, some display "auto" when the timer is set, you will have to make sure the timer is not on or it wont work, you would be surprised how many cookers and ovens I have been called out to and it was just the timer.

Shouldnt really have been able to reverse the polarity if they just did wiring in the cupboard.

Check your freezers instructions some of them go into defrost mode when power is interrupted

we now have a working oven..don't remember the display showing as being on auto but must have been that as gone through all the settings and they are now working.

Will go and try the freezer now but haven't got the instructions for that so will have to get them downloaded. hopefully I can get that sorted as my replacement appliance bill is going slowly down thanks to you all.

Any ideas keep them coming and thanks so much so far. the misses is bouncing round the house she is that happy at the moment, we thought with everything we may have to postpone our summer holiday but it may still be on the cards.

I remember having this problem on a job once when I was trying to fit an immersion heater. It kept blowing. Got a sparks in who said polarity was reversed.

As mentioned above, plinth heater might need bleeding (that's assuming it is fed by your heating system and not electric only)

Can't help you on the electrics but it might be worth posting in the electrical section. (Don't copy & paste your post - mods will not like it)

Glad your shower is working and even more glad that your wife is happy
