I'm having a kitchen fitted and there's already a socket in the wall about 30cm from the floor which will be where the integrated dishwasher will go. This socket is fed by an isolating switch which will be above the worktops.

The kitchen fitter said that I can't use the socket for an integrated applicance, I have to replace the socket with a FCU and either connect an extension to the FCU and have the extension accessible on the floor behind the pelmet or I need to remove the plug from the applicance and connect it to the FCU but the warranty of the dishwasher may be in-validated.

Is he, right, you can't have a socket behind an integrated applicance and use it for the applicance?

In your case you can isolate the socket without removing the appliance and the fuse in the plug will protect the flex.

The only reason I can think of why your kitchen fitter is saying you can't use the existing socket is that there won't be enough space behind the appliance to accommodate the depth of the plug. But this needs checking rather than guesswork.

Cutting the plug off an integrated kitchen appliance will not invalidate it's warranty unless you then wire it up incorrectly which causes damage to the appliance.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Have been in Egypt so only just got back to repond.

I thought there may be some Part P regulation stating that sockets can't be behind integrated applicances. I find it hard to beleive that there is not enough space behind the appliance for a socket and plug but I'll try and clarify when he comes to fit the kitchen. To me, putting a socket on the Kitchen floor which could be subject to getting wet doesn't seem right.
