What is missing is the duration for which the transformer can supply the rated amps without over heating. Door bell transformers only supply the load while the bell push is pressed and then only for a few seconds. This allows the design to use minimum wire size. They depend on the thermal mass of transformer to be able to cope with the heat produced in the wire for a few seconds. If the bell was ringing for a long time the average bell transformer will over heat.
I would have confirmed whether or not the slave chime goes ding-dong when you press the button when it's on it's own at it's remote location, before ordering a new transformer.

I just installed a similar setup with two d117 Friedland chimes, did the 2amp transformer fix your issue
My setup seems to be working fine just the door bells are not loud enough
Too me it seems like there is not enough power
So I was wondering if with the new transformer installed your problems have been resolved ????
