After 3 months I'm ready to tear out what little hair I have left. I bought a bit of a derelict house about 18 months ago. Finally it's watertight with roof repairs, new windows and doors so now it's down to cosmetic stuff. Problem is I just can't find a plasterer who a) wants to do the job or b) gets back with a quote. The only quote I did get was from a guy who can only do the job on a weekend, as he works during the week, and he wanted £1000 for two ceilings and three walls, skimming only. They're not big rooms, 1 is 5mx5m the other 4mx2m.

Are there any trade organisations in the North West that I can contact in order to get a reliable experienced plasterer? She who must be obeyed is now starting to give me serious grief.

Don't get me started about decent joiners!

Lee,

That'd be supply and demand then eh? If they know you're not gonna find anyone to do the job then they can more or less quote what they want I guess.

I haven't got a clue what the going rate is for such a job but assuming it takes him two weekends then that's £250 a day in his pocket.

Does that quote include materials?

Regards

Fred.

£150 a day cash 4 weekenders here in the "prosperous" county of Sussex ;) trouble is we`re booked for a holiday @ easter already

Thanks for the replies. I'm in Bacup, Rossendale. The thing is I don't mind paying but the guy who gave me the quote wanted me to do the prep work i.e. checking for blown spots, removing any dodgy areas and then putting on the PVA. I'm surprised he didn't ask me to labour for him as well! I don't mind doing the prep but what I need is some honest advice. If the plaster needs taking back to the brick then I'll do it and have it bonded and skimmed but most of the weekend guys want to be in and out as soon as possible so suggest patching and skimming. I've approached this project as a case of 'do it once and do it right'.

Lee,

Post a few piccies so we can take a quick look. £1k for two ceilings and a few walls skimming

Less than a days work,

I'm not far from you mate. Not that im touting for work ;)

Met a couple of girls from Bacup when I was out drinking in Blackburn, they said my accent was funny, "yeah" I said "I'm from Darwen", "really" they both said.

Used a fella called Colin, (not a weekend warrior) got his number somewhere, works with his son, lives in Blackburn, nice guy, if your not sorted by the weekend I'll see if I can dig it out.

Brickie,

Now if you were a TRUE darrener, you would have said " Hey up lass, I'm from darren they knows"

:D

He's either got it sorted by now or SWMBO has killed him for taking so long, with good reason!
