In our last 2 houses we have been able to influence the heating system and have had wireless room stats to control both the temp and times the heater comes on.

However we are about to move and there is an exisiting system installed that we will not be replacing. There is a Danfoss (not sure of model) room stat only installed which I assume will be wired. Can I just buy a wired Danfoss combined timer/stat and wire into to place - obvisously ensuring it matches voltage wise ie 24 or 240v?

I am currently trying to change Danfoss RMT230 for a Salus Rt500. Should be straight forward but there is an extra wire on my existing stat, possibly for an RP? In the danfoss instructions this should be from neutral. The new stat has live and switched live which replace terminals 1 & 2 and a non connected terminal for an earth. what should I do with the extra wire (on terminal 4)- put it on earth?

you say there is a wire which the instruction for the existing device say should be N.

So it is not an earth

So you should not connect it to Earth.

Thank you for your reply.

The existing N is for an accelerator on the old stat, and is not required for the new electronic stat/timer. The terminal I referred to as Earth is not actually an earth and is called an Earth parking in the new stat manual and is stated has having no electrical connection, and looking at it, this clearly the case.

Other forums suggest just putting the extra neutral into a terminal block when carrying out this type of exchange and I just thought it I could use the one provided!

Sorry if my earlier post was not clear.
