Hi all,

I have a woodburner which sits on top of a slate hearth. This was installed 2 years ago. Recently a crack has appeared across the hearth beneath the burner. I will try and upload a photo. My best guess is that the slate was fixed in so tightly within the opening that a bit of expansion has caused it to crack, is this possible? Nothing that I know of has been dropped on to it or hit it.
It maybe worth noting that the fitters were far from perfect and tried to bodge a number of things.

I believe it is concrete beneath with the hearth laid on a sand & cement bed.

Well it must be the heat then, or it might not be a thick enough slate.
Anyway, not worth worrying about really.

I can't see that its the heat from the burner as its appeared since the burner was last used. I can't say I'm worried but it does look shoddy
