Hi, we have taken the kitchen cupboard doors off and are going to fit mdf to them to make the kitchen shaker look but now i have found that my girlfriend plans to paint them in high gloss, i assumed that we would be painting them in satin or a matt finish, i think this is a mistake and that after all the work it will end up looking a mixture of old fashioned country kitchen and a modern high gloss kitchen.Does anyone see this turning out as anything but a cheap looking disaster as she will not listen to me about this?

Really, what's the point in asking this on here - she won't listen to you, so she certainly won't listen to a bunch of strangers!

A good lady will ALWAYS listen to what the man has to say.

She will totally ignore it of course but she should have the courtesy of listening.

You can do Shaker in high gloss. We bought our kitchen from a Solid oak company in Gloucester. In their show room they have the doors in traditional style, and shaker. Shaker left natural, painted in farrow and ball paints, and also they have them in ultra high gloss colours at the back for a high tech, modern design. I was surprised but looked ok. Not my choice but it didn't look "wrong"

Forgot to add. It depends what the kitchen looks like mind. Got any pics?

Or is the rest "country" then having shaker high gloss dors added? If its that way it sounds odd.

I assume you're not married yet.

Do what she says!

(Advice from a married man.)

I'd rather watch paint dry than watch football.
