Do i need this flue pipe ?

Hi i need some advice please .

I have just had a new boiler fitted under the green deal grant and during my survey i mentioned to the guy about the boiler putting out a lot more plume than my old boiler that was non condensing . He said well it is near the door we will fit you a pipe to take the plume away .

However the guys that fitted the boiler said i did't need the pipe as it was not close enough to the door ?

What do you think is it a good thing ? it looks like a periscope of a submarine !

let me know your thoughts please

It's called a plume management kit. You tell us nothing of your boiler or it's position in relation to the door. If the regs have been followed and it is not causing a nuisance then it is not needed. If, however, the fumes are a nuisance then one can be fitted to direct the plume away at, say a higher point.

Thanks pete they have done a good job ( in the end ) but i do wonder if the plume management kit was necessary especially after the the fitters said i didn't need one . I suppose it will keep the plume away from anyone walking in and out of the door .

My old boiler was just open flu non condensing seemed so much better to look at rather than this pipe going up the wall . I'm sure i will get used to it !

There's nothing technically wrong with what they've done, having said that it could have been done better - a vertical flue going out of the roof directly above the boiler would have achieved the same effect and probably wouldn't have cost much/any more to install. Still, I guess you get what you pay for (or don't pay for.....)

I'm sure I've read that the flue outlet of a plume kit should face the same direction as the inlet. Something to do with air pressure differentiation. This may have been for a specific model however. Does anyone know?

Hi i Didn't think it made any difference which way the nozzle is . I think they placed it forward to take the plume away more he said he wouldn't advise it going over the roof as the water droplets are slightly acidic and it may damage the flat roof . If anyone knows better be nice to know if this position is ok ?

Ian I'm very happy with the work thats been done i was just asking you guys if i needed the flu pipe . My Finacial situation regarding the green deal has nothing to do with you you do not know my circumstances so shove off !
