Hi, Can anybody advise me what rights i have over my next doors massive tree not only blocking my light but it drops 1000's of what look like caterpillars all over my garden every week i seem to be spend all the time off from work cleaning up. I spoke to him before it started to leaf that it would be cheaper to have it cropped at this stage but alas.

Any advice would be welcomed

Assuming the tree doesn't have a TPO and it isn't in a Conservation Area, you have the right to cut anything overhanging your land back to the boundary and offer the cuttings back to your neighbour. If he refuses them, you should dispose of them yourself. That's it.

I have a similar issue with an Oak tree at the end of my garden, had a few surgeons round, each one said something different regarding what to do, but I think the most intelligent and honest one said it would be best to wait until the autumn when the tree will be dormant and you aren't encouraging a deeper, more condensed growth by cutting it now.

It's also the nesting season so nothing can be done which might disturb nesting birds.
