I have just changed the OS wishbone on my 1997 ford fiesta and used the original bolts,

Now the car " clunks " when pulling away quickly or breaking quickly

Can anyone shed any advice ?

Just a couple of points:
Did you put new bushes in the wishbone at the same time, and what condition was the bottom ball joint in?
Next, is the drive shaft nut tight?
John :)

it was a complete wishbone with all bushes

drive shaft nut not touched

should I have changed the bolts as I understand they are stretch bolts ?

Hi. the bolts should be ok the first thing to do is go over all the nuts and bolts and make sure they are really tight and all the washers are where they should be . Also check the anti-roll bar and drop link though wear in these would normally cause a knock on uneven road surfaces . One other thing keep an eye out for uneven Tyre wear you realy check the tracking after working on steering/ suspension , regards....

As far as I recall the only stretch bolt on these is the one that clamps the strut to the hub - essential that you renew that one!
Other than that, you seem to have done the job fine, so check for anti roll bar bush wear, and these cars were notorious for breaking front springs (they still are!)
Drop links are suspect too but its usually a knocking over rough surfaces that shows up here.
Another candidate is the bush at the back of the front subframe......with the wheels hanging down it can be seen to delaminate.

as advised the wishbone comes with all new bushes intact,

the bolts are very rusty and I have been advised that all 3 are stretch bolts,

nothing else has been changed and the tracking has been done today as you can only adjust toe in or out on these cars,

the only time this knocks is when you pull away or brake hard,

driving along even on uneven surfaces it is fine

Or maybe the bolts are not actually tight. Might feel tight, or even at specified torque, but OP says they were 'very' rusty.

If they were that rusty they should have had the wire brush treatment.

Stretch bolts or not if they were tight there should be no clonk.

Suggestion at the moment would be to jack vehicle up and get decent lever and see if any movement can be found in any of the joints.

If noise was on acceleration or hard braking are you sure no damage was caused to CV joints?

if it was the cv joint then I guess this would do this everytime and it doesn't

everything is really tight

I have replaced with new bolts and still the same so this isn't the issue

nothing else has been touched and it was not there before, this is really confusing

Have you looked at the subframe mounting bushes, and the engine mounts themselves?
It does sould like you've done everything as it should have been, so maybe the knock was there before - just disguised?
Any issues should show up at MOT time, if thats close!

I have had a pull around this evening and should the anti roll have much movement ?

when I pull it the drop links click both sides but is this just normal movement ?

Surely this wouldn't cause a cluck when pulling away as this would more likely be ARB bushes wouldn't it ?

Hi , is the new ball joint pin the same diameter as the old one , has the anti-rattle spring ( if fitted ) on brake caliper been displaced ( are the caliper bolts tight ) , are the wheel nuts tight and on the right way round , you could try dis-connecting the drop-links and see if the noise goes away ......

Have you pushed the balljoint far enough into the hub ? The recess needs to line up with the slot on the hub.

if its not up far enough then the bolt wouldn't go through would it ?
