Help with new kitchen light.Will not switch off and trips

There are plenty of them about.
Whenever replacing/removing light/switches, take a note of where the cables are terminated and label the cable accordingly and also invest in muliti-meter, as this comes in helpful in proving circuits are dead prior to working on them and can help identify the function of the conductors.
 
If your not taking the switch apart you could stick both black wires into the working switch L1.

The working switch would then turn all lights on

as a tempory measure
