My issue with the guy from council is , if he requires a smoke in the livingroom/diningroom, why are they not demanding alarm in kitchen?.
I did electrics in a ex council concrete & brick(war built, flat roof house), extension onto the back of the house, family room/small area outside shower room/shower room, I had alarms in family room, small area outside shower room & existing kitchen(next to family room), i queried with the architect as to why they weren`t asking for alarms in hall, landing and living room in the existing house, he called building control(Forfar-Angus council), who he said they were not required?, i told architect, what if the downstairs was on fire, if people were upstairs in bedrooms no landing alarm to warn them.
I thought when you asked for a building warrant that involves electric alterations/additions they required some of the existing electrics being upgraded if you added too the existing, ie smoke alarms.
