hey,
I recently had a gas meter fitted, you know the crappy card ones..

Anyhoo, I ran out of gas the other day, and didn't bother to flick the emergency as it wasn't cold and I was just going to buy more in the morning, I ended up not putting any on until late in the evening as I was busy.

I finally got my gas on, went to start the boiler, and got the f.28 error, over and over n over.. The pressure I noticed was down to 0.

Now, I seem to recall this happening before when I ran outta gas, and I phoned the number on the front of the boiler and they walked/talked me through getting it going again, alas today is sunday and they are not open.

I really need to wash up, bath and wash some clothes..

So if there is anyone here that can talk me through the procedure to get this boiler going 'again'.. I would be very grateful.

Many thanks.

thanks for the speedy reply, unfortunatley, I dont know what model it is.
I have also tried that, it was the first thing that I done.
I have also re-pressurised it.. and it turns on, and sounds liek it is runnign for a few mins, although nothing actually gets hot.then it defaults back to f28

The pump appears to be working, I removed the screw and and can see that its rotating..

Thanks

EDIT:

P.S - It looks exactly like the one in the video.. I will go see if I can find a model number on it anywhere.

EDIT: Its a Turbomax 824e..

F28 is not connected to water pressure. If you've run out of gas it's likely any remaining fuel in the pipe was used. Depending on the size of the gas run, it may need to be re-purged (RGI job only). That's assuming there are no faults. If you have a gas hob, you could try lighting that then try boiler again. It usually makes 3 attempts to light.

No, idea about water pressure, all I know is the dial said zero, and it did last time I ran outta gas too, and I topped up the same as always, £20..and its not worked since.. Last time it happened it was a weekday, so I called them and some guy told me some instructions, wich I cant remember, but it did involve re pressurizing.. I remember doing that..

Sucks, cos its seems I wont have any hot water till sometime tommorow..:S

You are confused. Running out of gas (F28) and losing all system pressure (which would indicate F22) are 2 separate, unrelated faults.

Some later turbomax used the water pressure switch in series with gas valve so yes low water pressure/faulty switch will flag up F.28.

Don't you think that you should have remembered or noted how to fill?

If you think the card meter is crappy then why have it fitted ?

No, Im not confused..

That is exactly what has happend, twice..regardless of what you think..

Twice, I have ran out of gas this last month, and both times, the boiler then has had ZERO pressure and wouldn't start and the red light is on and it says f28..

There isn';t anything to be confused about.. It has worked fine at all other times.. But thanks for your insight!

Running out of gas doesn't cause your pressure gauge to go to zero period.

It may be that he only time you look at your pressure gauge is when you run out of gas. But it's not the cause. If what Steelmasons says is correct then you would get F28 before you run out of gas and every time the pressure drops. I doubt this is the case.

I didn't expect it to break everytime I ran out of gas, I was assured when it happened last time it was a one off and wouldn't happen again, it was just 'teething pains' as its new.

As to why I had it fitted, If you really must know, it was due NPower sending me the wrong bill for years(since 2007 when I moved in)
Its a large building converted into appartments, with more meters than apparetments, one is the actual buildings from years ago when it was one building.
They gave me 7 days to pay several thousand pounds, which I refused to pay in the 7 day time frame as it was their mistake, and stated that if it took me 6 years+ to build up the debt, then I should have at least a year to pay it, if not 6.
I had always paid my bills monthly in full, according to what they actually billed me [from the wrong meter]. So, in the mean time of getting the matter settled by their disputes team they insisted on me having one of these card meters fitted.

P.S - And as I said , know how to fill it, I have done it, I have checked the pump, its working...and fyi, when it happened last time I did ask him to repeat them steps for me so I could write it down, upon which he told me no, just call as he wasn't meant to tell me in the first place..

No, the pressure was above zero, it was 1.25...a little low maybe, but not at zero..
