Hi,

I'm fitting a Howdens kitchen. I've never fitted a whole kitchen before but I've hung cupboards and installed worktops so I thought I'd give it a go.

The hook on one of the wall-cupboards has become un-tethered from the fixing unit its attached to, and although it's not broken (I can see where it needs to fix back on inside the hole where the hook protruded) there doesn't seem to be any way to get inside the plastic housing to fix it, or even to replace the whole plastic hook fixture completely, as I have several wall cupboards which I'm actually using as base units (curved) so they have spares that will never be used, but how are they attached to the cupboard so that I can swap them over? there are no external screws at all but it's well rooted to the (in)side of the cupboard.

Many thanks in advance,

Ne

I would try and re-attach the hook if possible, because the assembly is attached with serrated pegs which are hammered in holes in the sides of the cupboard. They can be prised off, but more often than not bring a chunk of the surrounding chipboard with them. If you have to prise it off, then do it as carefully as you can. Give it a practice on one of the ones to be used for base units and you will get the idea.

Thanks a lot Fishcake.

I did spend about half an hour trying to re-attach unsuccessfully, I'll give it another try before trying to prise them off as you suggest.

Best regards.

I gave up trying to re-attach the hook, there just isn't enough room to get the metal hook over the retaining plate.

Armed with the knowledge you gave me about the serrated pegs though I did manage to gently prise it out, and one from the spare cupboard, and swapped them without too much collateral damage.

Thanks a lot for your input, it helped me solve this weekends' DIY headache.

Best regards

Ne.
