Private vs council Building control

A well as the general inefficieny of many L.A. building control departments, it's often their attitude that rankles.
They seem to believe they have a God-given right to take the money, and then behave in an authoritarian or condescending manner. Many are also far too quick to go looking for problems, rather than helping the build go smoothly.
But this is generally the prevailing attitude within the public sector anyway.

The funny thing is though every approved inspector I know comes from a local authority background, when does the transformation take place from a knob end to a fantastic bloke
All LA's now have to be commercially aware and as such offer tailor made quotes etc, when I was with the LA we always gave mobile numbers to clients/customers and I find it really shocking that in todays market place some LAs provide such poor service and are so elusive and up their own backsides, I also experience this issue and deal with lots of various LAs on a daily basis, some are great and others drive you mad.

It takes place as soon as they enter the private sector. It has to because their firm would not get repeat work from developers and builders if they retained the public sector attitude-of-mind.

For those still employed by LABC, this is of little consequence - they get paid whatever.

But agree that in LABC there are some good, and some not-so-good
