Gap around shower tray before tiling.

Can anyone advise me if this gap is acceptable before i bond the shower tray down.

The gap is 5mm & Its just at one end of the tray, the walls are not perfectly straight

i tend to er on the side of caution,moisture WILL find a way in.so i will do my best to stop it,hence filling it with silicone for the sake of a few quid now could save you lots in the long run.

Im about to silicone the base down to the plinth so with silicone the gaps too.

Was worried the new tiles wont cover that gap
 
How thick are your tiles....

You could channel the wall slightly at the other end of tray and it will be more flush...
 
You could board the wall with 6mm backer and ensure an overhang, always best to silicon before and after tiling.
