hive or similer

Errrrrrrrt just been on to a salus review showing how to install, just looking at the thermo set up put me off, also the presenter as he's talking you through temps etc, had to keep putting it back in as the light goes out after about 3 secs

HIVE is a great product. Simple installation, simple to use and gives excellent control over your system from anywhere in the world. It's also being constantly updated to give extra features and for £199 fully installed, they're giving them away.

We deal with a great deal of holiday lets and weekend only homes where people want remote control, owl intuition is very simple to install and use. we fit so many to theses type of property's and to date no component failure unlike the relay units in the salus. Any of the systems require an understanding of boiler wiring before installing but all use a standard wiring set up. They have also updated the set up process to make it even easier on install, can't recommend them enough!

aaarrrrgggh!!!!!!!!!!! Yet another to look at, although to be honest this Iis cheaper than hive or nest, although it doesn't have learning features, I just want a simple on n off control for when im out, as I explained earlier I spend quite a bit of time in hospital and sometimes have had to be taken in straight away which is a problem when in winter you leave your house having left your heating on to pop out and ending up
in hospital with your heating full blast while lying in a hosp bed with no one to turn it off, can I ask you about fitting, as looking at the owl you just have to wire into the old thermostat, it doesn't mention a heatblock which you need connected to the boiler itself , I dont know if ive namedIit correct or not, but both hive n nest I believe need some sort of device wired directly int boiler, what I can understand with owl its just thermostat n router to connect, although I may be wrong, if so then it would seem easy to diy

Our set-up pre-Hive was a control panel/timer in the kitchen and a thermostat in the hall (we have a hot water cylinder).

The kitchen timer was replaced by a box with two lights on it - one to tell you if the heating is currently on, the other for same with hot water.

The hall thermostat was replaced by the Hive control panel/thermostat.

IIRC a wireless receiver was fitted somewhere in the hot water tank cupboard.

A wireless sender was fitted to our router.

That's a point... If you have a separate timer next to your boiler already, it may be that the backplate is compatible with Hive already. It uses a standard one used by a lot of different manufacturers controls.

As I will be just having a condensing combi fitted (hot water on demand) is there need for a box fitted to heating unit or can the owl be fitted by just changing thermostat in lounge diy

There dead easy to fit providing a basic knowledge of heating wiring is known, for instance if you have a standard honeywell room stat with a 3 wires, make the neutral safe into the new backplate, the common into terminal 1 and call for heat terminal 4. Set your programmer to constant, plug in owl gateway, follow the wizard set up and you'll be working in under 30 minutes, it's that easy to fit!

Ok, open to all options, looking at all of them, but the owl does look the simpler of them all, although someone on here will disagree, looking at the box which replaces your thermo, you have comfort button, standby, n away, when your at home it states if it gets chilly just press comfort, but how do you say set it at 22, as with the nest you just turn dial to required temp of 22, but there's no numbers setting on this

The program's and temperatures are set by you on your iPad laptop as any ordinary programmable room stat would be, you set your boost temp ie 1-2 degrees in your settings parameters and your away temp at a temp to suit you

So the comfort button would go to the setting thzt you have chosen on the app ????

So what would happen if your broadband went down and you wanted a different temp

So the comfort button would go to the setting thzt you have chosen on the app, mmmm it was looking a simple system but on a chilly night in say may and I need a bit of heating and comfort is set as 18 on line when december comes I would have to set comfort at around 22, or indeed any months when a chilly night comes around it isnt that simple by just pushing comfort when really you have to go online to adjust the said comfort button, im sorry if im being picky but im looking at all options on all units, and the owl did seem a simple one however it seems to be not so simple especially when temperatures fluctuate so much in this country so really that comfort setting isnt so simple when you have to go online all the time

The comfort setting will take you above the current room temp by whatever you program it to, so whenever you press the comfort button it will boost it for whatever degree of rise you have set ie normally 1-2 Degrees and length of time to be on

You can set the owl boost up to 5 degrees above comfort. We fit em an I have one in my house very reliable and simple... If your broadband goes down the stat comfort standby an away buttons still work. It just means u can't use the app or pc to alter stuff
