Nadal (the world No1) was knocked out the other day by a bloody teenager..(ranked 144th) Just shows everyone has an off day. I'm sure Murray is no different.

Total prize money isn't a very good indicator, due to the inflation in purses available.

For instance, Tiger Woods has pocketed $110 million dollars in prize money alone, vs Jack Nicklaus' paltry $6 million.

Well said mate. While I agree he's a daur looking fella, he is very focused on his sport. With his back OP & a new trainer he just wasn't ready to defend his title.
