Have a block paving drive put in. Would like to cover over the existing outside stop cock and water meter cover/hatch.

I have a stop cock inside so don't really need it. Are there any regs that stop me from doing this.

Thanks in advance

The inside stopcock is all well and good till it jams up and you snap the handle trying to close it.

To my knowledge, the stopcock and meter are the property of your water supplier and access is required at all times for emergency work / replacing or inpecting meter.

There are a number of small inspection covers you can get (such as earth stake covers). Not sure if regs require a specific water one. But I would definitely leave access.

You'll never need to use your outside stopcock until the day after you cover it up. Also, if it has your meter in there as well then when the water company next come round to read your meter they will simply dig up your drive to re-expose it. As mentioned it is their property and they require access at all times.

If you don't want to retain the cover because it is in an awkward position then have it moved. It is not as expensive as moving the other utilities - SWW moved mine onto the pavement for free, but they are entitled to charge a nominal amount (I think it is capped at a few hundred pounds). In my case the supply was plastic so they compressed the pipe, removed the meter, fitted a permanent join and then filled in the shaft and removed the cover. It took about half an hour, plus another hour to dig up the pavement to fit the replacement and make good.

PMSL when I read this. Hilarious. brilliant foresight.

Can you imagine what future homeowners or someone rupturing the water main between the internal stop tap and the road stop tap would say?

As for burying the water meter! Genius:LOL:
