Thanks

Sprinkle with talc and brush into gaps, can act as a lubricant and help.
Doorways are often well worn so will be out of level allowing the floor to bow there.

The floorboards re actually real wood tongue and groove. So no gaps between them.

I don't think this would work. The boards are tight up against each other.

Anybody else got any suggestions please?

If it's the original floorboards underneath that are squeaking, how do you think you are going to fix it without getting access to them by removing the flooring that is on top?

Not sure, hence that's why I am asking!!!!!

Wasn't sure if there was a way of doing it from above

That's what I was wondering.... Need to find the joist I suppose

The usual way (or at least, *a* way) to stop squeaky floorboards is to screw them to the joists. So yes, if you can locate a joist, and if you don't mind plugs or screw heads showing in your floor, there's nothing to stop you putting some screws through the lot.

I'm not at all sure how you'd locate a joist, assuming you have no access to under the floor either.

Is living with the squeak an option? All houses of character sqeak somewhere.

Cheers
Richard
