I just brought some of them old crates and need to clean them up.

I will give them a wash with some warm soapy water to get rid of the dirt, what can i use to seal and protect the crate but not give it a colour?

Thanks

Clear varnish, I did my garage door so as to keep the colour of the pine.

I think wax would be ok if they are not out in the weather, although satin varnish would be easier to apply.
Why not try on a non visible part.

Depends what you intend for them , oil will seal , varnish not great on sawn timber [if that's what you have]

Essentially they will be indoors and just for show - thats why i want them to look good - what type of oil?

Danish oil, will just darken very slightly [wipe with a wet cloth and that's the effect you should get].
