Ill try and keep it simple!

Have removed a 1950's fire place back to builders opening and put in wood burner on granite hearth. Have put wooden fire surround in place (temp, its not finished yet)

With wooden surround against plaster board as normal there is a distance of 8" back to stone work. Difficult to see in pic because I have gone into the plasterboard wall back to stone opening.

The sides are miles away from the stove and dont see any heat but the underside of the fire surround does see heat.

What material can I use to sheet from fire surround back to stone wall?

Is fire resistant plasterboard acceptable or is it fire resistant for use in flats etc. My application WILL see heat not MIGHT see heat.

I also plan to fix a rectangle of aluminium sheet 5mm thick spaced away from this sheet to act as a heat deflector but I still want the base material sheet to be fire proof.

Thanks

you might be better using Hardiback board as its A1 fire rated. Depends what you want to do with it, you could just render and plaster it...? I'm doing a similar thing and the gap between the surround and the hearth walls are in the same condition and I'm going to line the inside recess with hardiboard and then plaster the front and tile it.

I never thought of that and Ive used it for shower walls!

Thing is it is ok for use in fire circumstances if fixed to masonry but is not to be used as a fire protection board according to the website.

I will need to do some small amount of framing and fix the board to the framing so sounds like I need a fire protection board?
