12 volt battery compatibility?

Hullo, first post and am hoping someone can offer advice.

Make - Kia
Model - Clarus 2.0 Saloon
Engine size/Type - 1998c - Petrol - Manual Gears
Year - 2000
Mileage - 48000

Have been experiencing starting issues and suspect the battery may need replacing but can't afford a new one.

I gave the local breaker's yard my battery details which are:

12V-48AH, MF60

When I got my replacement home, I found it is a:

12v-43AHR, 360CCA

It is also physically slightly smaller than my original.

Are these interchangeable, for my car model or should I return the replacement and wait until they, hopefully, get a 12V-48AH, MF60 in soon?

Given it's age, I doubt the battery in your car will be the original. Also, it doesn't meet the spec of the recommended battery.
He's not given you the proper battery for your car. But, if you can get it to sit securely it will do the job for a wee while.

Thank you for what appears perfect advice.

I clicked your link, put in my car details and the recommended batteries vary between 60AH and 63AH so, as you said, the current battery (at only 48AH) is already below spec and the replacement (at 43AH) is even further from the specified battery, required.

Will do as you suggest and put the replacement in as a temporary messure and request the Breaker's Yard try to find me a higher spec model, prior to the cold and damp winter ahead.

Once you know the correct format of the battery for your car, you can do a search for that particular battery.
The number 027 (which appears to be the format for your car) refers to the size, shape, post type and position.
You might be as well off getting a new battery.

Your continued help is appreciated and following your advice as to my Battery Type (being 027) I have discovered that a Type 075 has since superceded the Type 027, so I now have the correct cirrant replacement type to seek out, either from the Breaker's or from a Dealer.

I think you'll find it hasn't been superseded by the 075. They are similar but different. Hence both the 027 and 075 are both available off the shelf.
The 027 is 15mm taller than an 075. So, if you fit an 075 and your battery clamp goes over the top, you might not be able to get it properly tight.
EDIT:
I've done a wee bit googling and I found that some car battery sites are listing the 027 for your car and some are listing the 075 so it looks like either one is suitable.

The one you have will be fine if you get it to fit, not hard to start a petrol and it probably was the closest the breaker had.
Just be careful - negative to the body and + to the wiring loom. Don't mix them up and you are home and dry.

Don't have it loose in the car hold it down as best you can

So happy I found this site and posed my first question which I consider to have been answered most admirably.

I hope I receive similar help in the DIY building section (got a garden wall to sort out) and equally hope I can offer some help to others in my own area of expertise, being Information Technology, in the future.
