hello all...my bro in law is taking out an original fench door that has a window either side, about 2m wide. Currently the only support is a wooden plate above the door/windoe frame but the door frame seems to be taking some weight so can't simply be removed.

Walls are solid 9"

The question is, is there any chance a pair of concrete lintels (2.4m) will be adequate for is he realyl lookiong at a steel? if a steel, is there a same minimum to go for withouth having to get lots of calcs done. This is a four bed semi with gable roof and is at the back of the house with one floor above..

thanks,

Virgil

Have you explored the option of using a pressed steel lintel i.e. Catnic or similar?

Just checked...CN81 supports 5.4 tones for a 2.4m lintel and come in just shy of 200quid..

hats the advantage of this over a standard UB?
