Looking for under-cabinet filament/incandescent lighting that is NOT G4 capsule lamps? Elderly friend doesn't want LED or fluorescent (they have G4's at the moment, but don't like them because the bulbs are fiddly to change). There is a 60mm pelmet to hide the fittings behind. Only thing I have come up with so for is linear halogen eg: http://www.nationallampsandcomponen...Striplight-Fitting-For-284mm-Tube/77/290/3992 but woefully inefficient. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Why don't they want fluorescent? Gives the best working light for a kitchen and easy to fit behind a pelmet.

I prefer LED strips myself, both are vastly more efficient than incandescent and I have pointed this out, but they want filament lamps. I find it's a common attitude, especially among older generations.

There are these dreadful things: http://www.kitchenappliances123.co.uk/shop/pc/LTPG-Twin-Pygmy-Light-p3213.htm
but will be just as inefficient as the filament strip lamps.

As for those who deem all lamps other than incandescent to be rubbish - their opinions usually change once they have actually seen decent LED lighting.
Get one of these: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p31806
and fit it into a table lamp or ceiling pendant when they are not looking. See if they notice the difference.

I've tried to convince him about the benefits of newer LED's. One of the reasons he wants incandescent is so the lights will work with his existing old, Polish, ELDA touch dimmers (he has 4 in his kitchen for different lights, and a stock of spare dimmers).

It would have helped to have known that from the beginning

Because then we could have ruled out most of the suggestions above without having to research and post answers.

To be fair, the OP did say that LEDs or fluorescents were not wanted (even if it may not have given the full reason for that), so those who replied in relation to things which they had been told were not wanted have really only themselves to blame!

Kind Regards, John

"Most of the suggestions"? there's only been two - one from you ignoring the question and suggesting something explicitly ruled out in the first post, and one from flameport (thanks). I asked very specifically about incandescent under-cabinet lighting. If you want to 'research'(???) and post answers to a question that hasn't been asked, that's entirely up to you.

Mmm. Take you to task I shall.

So when kbdiy asked you why, you did not say "because of the dimmers he wants to use".

You said, quite clearly, that it was an attitude, and therefore it is reasonable for people to suggest things which might change his attitude, and reasonable for kbdiy to say "It would have helped to have known that from the beginning  " when you eventually gave the real reason.

Lol the pathetic, pedantic, forum bully just can't resist!

I'm not even sure he's aware the dimmers are an issue with fluorescent, two of them are malfunctioning already and will be getting looked at shortly but whether he is or not it's not 'the real reason' it is but one factor along with light colour, brightness, ease of lamp replacement, and many other things. He had fluoro's in the past and didn't like those either at the time. None of that is relevant because all that was asked for was suggestions for incandescent fittings. I mentioned LED and fluorescent so people wouldn't think they hadn't been considered

Can you put forward a reasoned, credible explanation of why pointing out, quite truthfully, that you said absolutely nothing about any reason for him not wanting LED or fluorescent, and that all you said, when directly asked why, was that it was an older-generation type "attitude", makes me a pathetic pedantic bully?

Or will you fail to do that, and confirm that it is in fact you who is pathetic?
