BYPASSED prepayment meter

I was speaking to a meter installer the other day and enquired as to why they are now using brown and blue (outer sheath) meter tails instead of the old grey outer sheath with coloured inner sheath.

He told me it was in place to cover their backs in the event of someone trying to bypass the meter and splice into the cables, ensuring that they connect onto the right cable!!!!

Going back some years we went from using grey/red or grey/ black to the style with the same coloured outer e.g. red/red.

For no other reason that it was cheaper to do so, until the market changed and we went back to grey/red

We need more robustness in society, and people (including judges) to grow some cojones, and take the attitude that if you start to bypass meters, or steal cables, whatever happens to you is your fault.

some of the shops we do, the copper fridge pipes get nicked in the yards.
Was told the replacement units now are so high pressure cutting them could kill you, maybe the theives wont know that if they came back

My heart bleeds for them.

Doubt it'll slow them down.
Toerags nicked gas pipes off flats nearby - imagine cutting that.
And all too rarely, but sometimes, they do get zapped out on the railways (600v plus ?).

Hmm, must be a popular discussion - the moneysaver site is down for me.

Assuming its the houses CPC, why would it have been cut ?
An assumption problem, I think! If your assumption were correct, then there obviously be no point in cutting it. However, as BAS has been alluding to the suggestion and implication appears to be that the G/Y cable was previously being used for something very different from (and much naughtier than) a CPC!

Kind Regards, John
