Quick question to all

Business is manic and theirs not enough of us so

I'm looking to employ another skilled person (electrician / higher qualified person) for a test and inspection / maintenance electrician / fault finder on industrial installations.

what do people expect to be paid? ..... will be providing van, instruments etc etc

i know there is a big skills shortage so I'm guessing its a employees market hence my question.

Sorry dont know the answer re pay. But maybe theres a shortage of electricians because to train to become one (relevant C&G's etc) from the albeit not rigourous searching I've done, you seem to have to be employed as an "electrician" to sign up for the courses????? Seems weird to me!

It's not weird. The whole system of C&G training and qualifications is that they have a large amount of practical skills and experience, they aren't just academic. You can't get the skills by sitting in a classroom - you need a job where you can learn as well.

I have no doubt of that, it just seems very circular to me, in that it appears very very difficult to get a job as an electrians "mate" or apprentice thus enabling yourself to becoming fully qualified. I know its been done to death on this forum and the reason for my interest is that one of my sons is, how can I put it, never going to be academic (please don't read into that all tradesmen are thick) so thinking ahead I need to see if a trade or a skill would maybe suit him better (it might not)

Anyway, sorry, hijacked your thread a bit there.

I believe that for some years people have been making an effort to get a decent apprenticeship regime up and running.

Do the other two not go to college?

When I was employed (now self employed) I was on £13.59/hr (JIB Rate.) that included a van I could take home, diesel, and meters etc. that was the best anyone in this area pays (Devon too). I took the plunge and now charge £22 /hr plus vat and am flat out, and possibly thinking of employing a another man in the near future too.

What do you expect to be paid?

I don't do an electricians job so I can't really say what to expect

RF your cheap!

My hourly rate is £39.50.. Am regularly doing a 1000 miles a week and am turning people away...well usually they wait for me  so theirs no escape! But as said Im not 'just' a sparky - no offence ment to anyone.

My work is all in industry, complex control systems, design, installation, modification, maintenance, coding for PLC's etc

I have several sites which I cover 24/7 for breakdowns.

Can't remember the was time I worked with T&E!
