I had a new boiler put in last May which works fine etc and didn't realise the engineer was supposed to notify my LA through Gas Safe about the work.

I found out in September about this and realised that I hadn't received confirmation so got in contact with him. He apologised and explained that he had moved house shortly after doing my boiler and had forgotten to do it. He told me he would do it immediately.

It's now November and I still haven't heard anything and can't seem to get in contact with him.

What can I do? Is there a reason he wouldn't want to notify? He is registered and filled out all the boiler benchmark info so he isn't fly by night, but im getting a little frustrated.

They will probably do naff all as the boiler doesn't have to be notified to them. They might however have a quiet word to the installer.

If they don't do anything and he doesn't notify then where does that leave me with building control? I suspect the answer is that I am better off keeping quiet...

No!

It is your legal responsibility to ensure building regs are complied with.

But practically only the actual installer can do the Notification.

Please pester him to get it done.

Gas Safe would probably have a word with him but better you deal direct with him unless he really refuses and it does not sound as if he has. Probably just busy with this time of year.

I managed to get him on the phone and he said he had done it but there must have been a problem so he would do it again.

I assume it will take a couple of weeks for me to get something through confirming it. Fingers crossed.

Yeh allow a couple of weeks, it's normally quicker but if nothing get straight back onto him.

I did a notification last week, the Client recieved the certificate within 4 Days so at the moment they are getting them out pretty quickly - are you sure your installer is Registered/Qualified as a notification really only takes 2 minutes!

If he turns out not to be gas safe you will have to get someone out to commission your boiler otherwise the warranty will be void.

Had a load of stuff on over Christmas and forgot about this.

I still haven't had anything and gassafe were useless, just told me to pay someone else to commission it. I don't see why I should have to pay extra for this, any idea what it would cost?

Write to him and request him to complete within 14 days. If he fails to do so, inform him you will make alternative arrangements and invoice him for the cost, pursuing him for the amount through the small claims court if he does not pay. If he is registered, this should pose him no problems. If he is unregistered, this will scare him witless and at best, cost him money.

Persistence pays off - I spoke to gas safe (who are as useful as a chocolate teapot) this morning and the boiler is now registered and the certificate is in the post.
