Western Power Fridge magnet

Yes it is a new number, previously there was one for each of the areas.

I think I'd prefer the old arrangement for longevity. This is the first time ever we've been told the phone number (yes I know there's vans and ENA website but the public don't know ENA and when seeing a van most would say 'who the f*ck are they?).

The problems start again when some part splits off again or Severn Trent decide they want to branch out and make up a new company 'United Things That Don't Mix' or some such. Then we've all got these fridge magnets stuck to our meters or leaflets folded behind the cutout for a number no longer covering our area.

Don't get me wrong the publicity is great, there's just a need to remember history and remembering how the network can be as easily split as made.

The actual network splits are as they have been since nationalisation in the 1947 and is based around electrical splits in the adjacent networks.
Always has and probavly always will.

What has changed is the names of the various companies

So WPD = SWEB, SWaEB, MEB, EMEB
UK power networks = LEB, SEEBOARD, EEB
Northern Power Grid = YEB, NEEB
Scottish & Sourthern = NSHEB, SEB
Scottish Power/Manweb = SSEB, MANWAB
ENW = Norweb

They are all designated by a two diget code at the start of each individual customers account/MPAN number. e.g. ENW customers will always be 16.... This will never change

As for setting up a new company. that will only be done by buying an existing one or network, the electrical hence geographic splits will remain

We don't need a fridge magnet with our DNO No as here in powercut alley we know it off by heart as we have had 6 this year so far.

7 hrs in May
5 hrs in July
15/10/14 16:30 off 19:35 on 3:05
16/10/14 15:45 off 16:45 on 1:00
21/10/14 13.35 off 17:05 on 3:30
21/10/14 19:25 off 23:45 on 4:20

We got told different reasons as to the cause so still left wondering what the cause was I was told the one in May was due to someone felling a tree onto our overhead lines but the rest of the outages well we still don't know.
Myself and other neighbours got told different reasons but something is certainly wrong around here.
I have a UPS and on the last power outage it failed to stay up battery has gone well it has had to do some work I suppose.

We do have a wired phone as it's a must here along with emergency lights.

Magnet proved useful for my parents during a power cut.

Now received an A3 sized leaflet throught the post.
It tells me to monitor Twitter during a power cut. @wpduk

I was very impressed with them just before Christmas.

Power cut at home lasted just under an hour. Within the time I took to find and ring the number though, the automated telephony system plus the website were able to say there was a problem, plus 'we're investigating' or anticipated timescales for rectification.

A lot of it will be automated and it's good to see these systems well-enacted.

I couldn't find the magnet though.
