Hi everybody,

Just a quick question. Am getting a new computer and I want to transfer all my data ie tabs, history, bookmarks etc from Firefox on this computer to the new one.

I have made an account with Firefox Sync. Am I right in thinking that when I set up the new computer I have to sign in to Firefox Sync and there it all is?

Here's a thick question. Do I need to have this computer plugged in to the new one or is it all stored in my Firefox Sync account?

I have taken a backup of my bookmarks on to a pen drive. Now when I try and access it I get the message about Windows cannot open the file. What do I do?

I've just learned how to back up firefox profile. I need to copy the whole folder on to say a memory stick. Then when I start using my new computer I need to overwrite the default folder on the new computer with the folder from the old computer.

Yup. Very similar to how we do it in Linux.

Linux has no registry. Config files are in DOT folders in "Home" (hidden though, press alt H to reveal)

Simply rename the current .mozilla folder to .BAKmozilla (or whatever) and copy over your old config folder.

You can see in this screeny that I've copied over the .Thunderbird folder a couple of times. I forget why !

You can do that, or you can just sign into Firefox Sync. It's already up on their servers waiting for you to sign in and retrieve it from a new client.

Does Firefox Sync update with every session or just the one that was synced?

All browsers signed into Sync continually update. If I bookmark something on this machine, it pops up on three others in a minute or two.

Right I have tried to Firefox Sync on another account on this computer. I've got my History and bookmarks. The only thing I cannot figure out is how to get my Tabs from this session. How do I get my tabs back?
