Hi guys,

I intend to fit a bracket on my bedroom ceiling which will hold a heavy punch bag, however before I get stuck in I wanted to ensure it would be 100% safe and not dangerous to my 3 year old daughter. I've done some research regarding finding beams etc but what I'm wondering is....are the beams able to carry much weight? (a bag wouldn't weigh that much) will they handle the moving around etc? once I find a beam can I simply drill through the artex?

The house is 23 years old

Thanks Ben[/i]

So long as you can get a good fixing directly into the beams above the ceiling, all will be well, but it's maybe an idea to let us know of their dimensions.
Have the hooks or whatever screw into the beams by 60mm or more.
John :)

I would also put some struts going between the ceiling joists as once you get going on the bag you will cause some movement in the ceiling and it made the nails holding the ceiling boards to te joists pop out through the artex. I replaced them with screws patched the artex and added lateral support and it didnt happen again.
