Hubby has suggested that we have something called a light tunnel in the ceiling to a new extension. What are they, do they really work and can anyone recommend a retailer. Many thanks

I installed a dome type sun tunnel on our loft conversion ridge roof. Not sure if this type is more suited to flat roofs but we have really struggled to make this not condensate/leak? and stain the ceiling.
I think we have solved it but will find out in the winter.

"light tunnel's" certainly work - but i would not use one on a flat roof on principle. The principle of least amount of penetrations.

Perhaps, read "Fixmyroof" article on sun tubes or tunnels in the UK climate.

I think the one we had fitted was a Sunpipe by Monodraught. We've had it for about 15 years and we've never had any trouble or leaks. It has worked very well although the hemispherical dome is getting a bit cloudy now. It was quite expensive but it "feels" much better than having the light on all the time - it's in our landing ceiling which is about 20' long, 8' wide and has no windows. Originally, the only light had to come through the front door and up the stairs. Now we don't need the light on during the day if all the bedroom doors are shut.

Mine was the monodraught sun pipe but I found it seemed to condensate inside the dome then trickle out the bottom. The felt round the sides of the dome joint seemed to saturate then over flow at the lowest point.
I opened the dome and dried it out completely then created a mastic seal at the inside Perspex to seal out any warm air entering. It appears to of worked but winter will be the main test.
