Hello everyone,

I wanted to know whether running Fernox DS40 through my boiler would cause any damage to it, I am planning on a powerflush this weekend and wanted to know if I need to isolate the boiler from the rest of the system. Obviously being acid do not want to cause any damage.

Also what are your thoughts on Sentinel X800 vs Fernox DS40?

I have a Vailant 637 Ecomax about 13 years old now.

Many thanks

Ds40 is very good stuff, but it's also very strong. I have heard reports that it can damage o-rings, and your boiler contains many o-rings. So it's best not to run it through the boiler if you can avoid it.

However. Ds40 works best when hot, so try and use a powerflush machine with a built in heater

Ps. Sentinel x800 is very weak compared to ds 40.

Many thanks for your reply, the flush is for a single pipe system, do you have any hints or tips for getting the best flush possible?

Boiler is cutting out as soon as it fires up for the heating, hot water is fine, had a home serve engineer out who checked the boiler for an hour and said everything was fine, he did say there is definitely a blockage on the pipework somewhere.

Thank you

Flushing a 'one piper' ?, best of british....

They rely on differential temps on the rads to work, but what would I know, I only come across one every five years or so...

You're going to struggle power flushing a one pipe system. You may be better off just putting something a bit weaker such as the X800 into the system and leaving to circulate for a couple of weeks during normal operation with boiler turned up to maximum. Then just drain the system when it's hot. Install a magnetic filter on the return just before the boiler and refill system. Depending on the state of the water that comes out it may be worth repeating. If you have an F&E tank in the loft be sure to bale the water out and clean the tank before opening the drain off as you will pull all the crap into the system. Once satisfied refill with inhibitor and clean out the filter at regular intervals.

Haha yep best of british! Its 28mm pipe then splits to 15 at each rad and has been working perfectly until now? It was installed before I moved in and this was 21years ago!

Not efficient I know but the rads get scorching, thays before its stopped working and this is the first time in 21years, its had no inhibitor and has 19 rads on the system 15 doubles and 4 singles.

All the rads are getting water but most downstairs are not working all upstairs are hot!

Is there any danger in running the powerflush machine while the boiler is on? Or shall I keep it off as per usual?

Thanks for your reply, its a sealed system so no issues with capping off.
