Had a new thermocouple fitted by a BG Engineer approx. 1 and a half months ago as I couldn't get it to strike at all. It all worked fine until now. The pilot light keeps going out although it ignites first strike all the time the moment I let go of the grey button it goes out. Something appears not to be kicking in (the back boiler?). After 8th attempt it is now working... but for how long until it goes out again? I have HW set to on and CH set to on at 22 c.

What could be causing the pilot light to go out when the HW and CH is off (set on timer). I have both HW and CH set to on for now in fear of it the pilot light going out again.

Pilot injector may be choked, does the flame look o.k. the pilot top (popes hat) aims the flame onto the.t,couple can face slightly off or burn through completely. It may be hard to see but does the flame hit the t,couple

Flame is quite vigorous and appears to hit t.couple which ends up glowing red, there appears to be two bunny ear type flames coming out the top hat and one flame slightly behind that burns directly on the long cylinder thing that normally ignites once you hear a slight clunk. But at this stage it's back to only the pilot light igniting when I push the strike button and leave the grey button depressed.

If it's a new t,couple (fitted and tightened correctly) and a good flame and still keeps going out it sounds like a faulty gas valve.does it keep going off or was it just the once after the new t,couple?

All was fine until this morning when I noticed we had no hot water and CH hadn't come on (it has worked fine ever since the BG guy replaced the t.couple). I got it going once this morning again but only for about 30 minutes then it went off again and pilot light was out, after around 8 attempts this afternoon it took again but has only stayed on for around 45 minutes even though I cranked CH up, everytime it goes off the pilot light goes out. Am I getting confused but is the thermo couple the long cylinder thing or is it the object with the thin copper tube that the flames come out when you push the striker button and hold the other grey button in (about the size of a penlight battery)?

T.couple is the copper coloured thing that sits in the the end of
the pilot flame. The flame doesn't come out it

Okay, went to have another look and I can see what I think is the thermo couple which is as you described, it is difficult to see and I can't tell whether the flame is burning on it directly, I tried looking at it with a torch but still can't tell for definite. If it is burning directly onto the thermo couple then would it be the gas valve not working properly?
