Hi,
I have an old Maxol homewarm 600 boiler (10 yrs old I guess) which works fine appart from overheating the rads now and again, but on top of that it make one hell of a noise just shortly after it comes on. Not sure if it is the heat exchanger touching on something when expanding or is just the fan touching some other metal parts.
Is there any way of disconnecting the fan for a short period of time to prove it is the fan?
If I have to replace the boiler I wouldn't want to get a combi, because of all the extra pipe work that needs doing. What is the best replacement for an old boiler like that and is it worth it since these are not manufactured anymore?
cheers

I'm now thinking of replacing the whole boiler with a similar one.
I came across Maxol Fan Flue 15000 BTU hot water boiler, but not sure if this is a good replacement fot the 'Maxol homewarm 600'.
Common sense tells me 15000BTU speaks for itself.
Please ignore my lack of experience on this subject.
the search goes on...

its me again, hoping that someone will join my monologue on this not so interesting subject, just a simple question, if the fan of a standard boiler is making noise and can be fixed and the boiler is 10-12yrs old, will the boiler itself, I mean the rest of the parts should be OK for another few years or 10yrs is a good enough service and the boiler must be changed, because most of the part are worn out?
wow, that must be the longest sentence I've ever done...
thanks

...and the monologue continues...
I have checked out the boiler and the 22mm outlet pipes are actually connected directly to 15mm pipes (through 22->15 adaptors).
I was told that if a boiler is connected directly to 15mm pipes it will overheat and cause this wistling noise since the water cannot circulate fast enough. Is ths right?
and do you know if anything can be done to prevent it (apart from changing pipes to 22mm, I'll do it in the summer) i.e. somehow reduce the gas flow or something.
Thanks

Have you googled "maxol fan" ?

Just an update since the problem is now fixed. After more detailed inspection is turned out this boiler did not have a fan, so the noise must have been generated by the heat exchanger (getting too hot because of sluge build up in parts fo the loop) and since prior to that the boiler wasn't making any noises I assumed the pipework was good (a single 15mm loop). So I drained the system and used sluge removal chemicals, filled it up again and within few minutes, magic, no noises at all. All rads working nice and as new. Should be re-flushing the system shortly and adding some inhibitor.
cheers
