So my Nissan Micra has had its aerial snapped off, must've gone through a car wash with it still on or something, and I'm attempting to sort it out because the reception is terrible and sounds all fuzzy.

I'll attach some pictures of the aerial to demonstrate my problem. Any recommendations or suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Replace the aerial?

If you look closely it's actually snapped, I'm not sure how much of what I would need to replace hence I'm asking here. The aerial itself is intact it's the base that seems to be broken.

The aerial antenna screws onto the base, which is available separately (dealer part though).
The wire to the radio connects to the base part, and can be reached by pulling the head lining down a bit.

Replace BOTH the aerial base and whip. If you unscrew the whip from the broken bit in the second picture, you'll find the male and female threads are both corroded badly, so just getting a shiny new base and refitting the old corroded whip back on is a bad idea. Especialy as the whip is the cheaper part to replace anyway.

Pop out the interior lamp and you should be able to access the nut holding the base on.

Thanks very much guys, very helpful. I was attempting to unscrew the whip but like you said they're very corroded. I'm looking at getting a generic aerial off ebay for about £6 I think... something like this?

It's a bit tricky to get the the fitting. I took the light out and had a look but the aerial is a good few inches further forward and not easy to get at. I'd probably have to take the whole interior off by the looks of it.

Only speaking personally but in this case I'd go for the genuine Nissan item.....a perfect fit is guaranteed.
With the courtesy lamp out, can you bend the head lining down enough to see the aerial securing nut?
