This was covered recently when someone posted that they had bought a 2nd hand Hive.

You need an account with Bg to access the control remotely.

How you get an account is the issue.
Not sure if the previous poster found a solution to this.

Here's the thread. //www.diynot.com/diy/threads/hive-ebay.421567/

Nest and Hive are different. Nest is a smart thermostat with a jazzy interface. Whereas Hive is a Drayton programmer with internet access. There are better alternatives on the market to both.

I have a drayton programmer stat at the moment. 3+

But I like the idea of the nest as I can program it from my armchair but not willing to pay £180 or whatever ATM.

Hive is nothing like a Drayton programmer, are you sure ya not confusing bg's earlier version called remote heating control??

Theoretically yes it would work as long as the log on details are given to you and bg don't cancell it at there end.
Hive is on offer for 149 fitted if ya get ya energy from them

Not too interested in hive.

What's the advantages to the old BG system ? Can u program times from you pc or phone

You have to ask yourself how often you sit in your armchair and think "gosh I rreeeeaaaly need to fiddle with my heating, but I can't be arsed to get up."

There is more control with the hive, you can set up ya on/off times and temps using ya phone or computer (from memory you can also do this with rhc), ya can set notifications for wen a certain temp is reached, or use your location, I would say the main difference is you can control your hw with hive

Now the Nest can be voice controlled I find pushing buttons a major chore TBH

All I need now is someone to do my talking for me and I can really relax

Lol.

Having to go thru 84 settings on a drayton 3+ is painful.

I guess that's why I'd like something else.

We installed Honeywell Voice field trial units. . Great thermostat but voice control was totally pointless. . Could be controlled over the interweb.
