Hi all :)

I am in the process of fitting the Grohe rainshower system.

With reference to the "S" unions supplied on the kit I understand that the 22mm end of this goes into the shower valve unit but cant see how you can attach a 15mm pipe with olive and compression nut to the 15mm end as it will not go into the fitting like a normal compression set up so I've gone and got two female compression elbows.

What I need advice on it how to effectively water seal where the 15mm end of the "S" coupling fits into the female elbow? Would this be plumbers mate, PTFE tape a rubber washer? or is there a much better fitting to use?

Thanks for the reply but this wont work as the s unions are needed to tighten the covers to hide them, the nut fits inside and is held in place by lugs so you can tighten the cover down.

I just need to know what to use to seal the 15mm end of the union to the female of the compression fitting.

53 people have read my post but as yet no one knows how to help? Guess all the plumbers are watching the tv then :)

PTFE if it's a male in to a female thread. Which rainshower is it? I've fitted them before and used the fittings I linked to earlier.

The only indication of type on the instructions is one of the following:

27 469 or 27 569 other than this I have no idea.

Wondering why these s unions are used at all as they seem to be a complete pain in the rear

How much water does that chuck out on full pelt ??

shallow depth shower tray ? waste pipe big enough ?

OP, I suspect you are calling the offset connector as the 'S' union.

If the distance between the two pipes is 150 +/- 15 mm, chuck them beauties in the bin and fit a 15mmx 0.5" MI adapter. You may not be able to fit the nice caps to hide the ugly couplings though

If the distance between the pipes is out of limits, then afraid you will need to dig the wall and fit appropriate fittings to allow shower mixer to fit

Parting shot!. I assume you have a combi boiler. Is you boiler or cylinder able to supply the torrential downfall you are after?
 
Thanks for that, now have two options to sort this and as I said why do these people always engineer a simple fix, think im more than capable of centering two pipes so these s unions are a waste of space and as this stuff is german but for the uk market why don't they adapt the kit to suit our fittings?

oh and ..........

there's 2 Gledhill unvented cylinders going in the attic space 300 litres a piece
