Serious Problem with my boiler installer

About 4 months ago, I had an extension built.
When i cam to have my boiler installed, my builder recommended a gas engineer, and had my boiler installed.

On finishing the extension, I had an argument with my builder / bricklayer, as he wanted 3 times the amount on his quote.
This lead to a large argument, and subsequently he won;t answer his phone.

However, I have never received a gas compliance certificate, which my building controller is now asking for.
Since I don't have a phone number for the gas engineer, I'm completely UN-able to find him.

This is now leaving me in a very difficult position.

I have been using the boiler for 3 months, but I still don't have a compliance certificate.

Can anyone advise me on what on earth to do here.
It's becoming a very nasty situation!

Did your installer fill in the Benchmark certificate in the installation manual? This should have been left on site, and if he filled it in it'll have his details on it. What make/model boiler is it?

I don't have any paperwork.

I was not at the property at the time of the installation, no paper work was left, and they would not have had the manual at the time either.

The Boiler is a Sime Format DGT HE30

He moved the old one. I think it;s about 2-3 years old

The manual with the Benchmark Certificate comes in the box with the boiler.

So why would they not have had it?

Why do people let anyone into their homes who need to be gas registered without knowing their identity and checking their registration?

Because at the time everything was fine. It wasn't until later when I asked for the certificates that they started acting funny, and stopped returning my calls.

Needless to say, the only thing I can think of it to have the boiler re-installed, but after searching all morning for a gas engineer, I've found that most gas engineers won't touch it unless they have supplied the boiler themselves.
I still don't know what on earth I'm supposed to do about it.

But why do you say they did not have the boiler manual?

I am surprised that you apparently paid them for the boiler installation without checking the installation Certificate was present.

Not only no installation Certificate, but no warrantee either!

Tony

very true, at the time, I had an argument with the builder over work that he had done that was not written on the initial quote.
He wanted paid for work, that had never been mentioned.

This lead to me paying for work that I had never asked for.
Everything went hostile after that.
I paid the full amount but since then they have never answered their phone.

And I hazard a guess that this gas engineer has nothing t do with gas all together.

I didn't suspect anything at first as everything seemed normal, the bricks were going up and the building controller was fine with it.
It was only in the last few weeks that it went pear shaped.

As this is not a new appliance would your building inspector settle for a Cp 12 or something similar? I would ask him. You will not have any problem finding an engineer to do a Cp 12 or gas report.

Unfortunately you dont seem to be telling us the truth!

You say here that you have been using the boiler for THREE months!

But on the 15 December you posted this:-

Hi, I have a boiler to be lifted on to a wall and connected up.

It's part of a new extension, and all, if not most of the pipes are already in the right place.
Holes have already been drilled for the flue etc.
I just need someone to connect it up and give me a safety certificate.

(floorboards are already lifted to inspect any gas pipes).

any ideas?

The inference is that you have fitted it yourself or had an unregistered installer do it for you.

We give free advice here but do expect those asking to be telling us the truth and not trying to pull a fast one!

Tony

Theres nothing fast about it. It's exactly the same boiler.
I had my arguments with my builders in the begning of December. It's now the 15th January, and I'm still in exaclty the same position.

As for pulling a fast one, I didn't aks for information on how to instal it did I?

The boiler was installed just after my last post and this gas engineer has since disaapeared.

I asked you what I could do about it, I didn't ask for instructions on how to install it.

And the 3 months is actually a typo, the boilers has been in for almost 2 months.
And yes, I had no option but to use it during the winter.

Your compliance certificate is the same one you had three years ago.
Surely your original installer gave you one.
Re-positioning a boiler is not notifiable work.
Explain to the building control nazi the circumstances.
Jeff

Why would anyone need to register a boiler that has been moved from one part of the property to the extension, it's not a new boiler. So really only a gas safety certificate would suffice. Or have I read it wrong.
Jeff got there before me.

On he 15th December you did not have any installer to fit the boiler!

So who actually fitted it then?

Were they gas registered or not?
