When ever the 18th edition of the BS7671 wiring regulations (requirements for electrical installations) comes out, what do you think will be the main changes including things added/removed from it?

Also will the 3rd amendment (2015) be the last amendment for the 17th edition?

There are never more than 3 amendments, so the next version will be a new edition.
That's interesting. Were they to stick to roughly the average over the past few editions of about 13 years between editions, we would have about another 6 years to wait for the "18th". Does what you say imply that we'll probably see it much sooner than that?

Alternatively .... with the present edition, Amd2 was, of course, not really an amendment in the usual sense - it was merely an 'added chapter'. That being the case (which, I suspect, very few people probably even noticed!), might it perhaps be possible that they would consider having a 4th (3rd 'true') amendment?

Kind Regards, John

Actually I might have been wrong there.
The rule in IEC and ISO is that the third amendment to a standard results in a new edition, although it is possible by exception to have a third amendment. However I can't find that rule repeated in BS0, so perhaps our Nation Standards Body does not implement that rule.

Fair enough. Looking back, FWIW, the last edition of Wiring Regs prior to them becoming BS7671 ("15th ed.") ran to four amendments - although that obviously does not mean anything in terms of BS rules.

In fact, shouldn't 'we' already know the answer? Won't JPEL meetings to start considering 'whatever comes next' (be it a fourth amendment or a new edition) already have started - or, at least, be scheduled?

what do you think will be the main changes

What changes or additions will the 18th edition introduce or remove?

For example: Dual pole MCB's, 10ma RCD's for domestic installations, required surge protectors in the CU, changes to any set values (e.g. maximum Ze for TT earthing system changed from 200 to 100 ohms), ???

You really need an astrologer or time machine - but, FWIW, I frankly doubt that any of the things you mention will be there.

Out of those, the only one I think likely is the surge protection, which is being pushed by manufacturers.

Manufacturers of what - surge protectors? If so, ...... !!!! However, what you say doesn't surprise me, given all the new stuff relating to surge protection etc. which appeared in Amd1 (was that due to 'pushing by manufacturers' as well?), but I'm not sure that (m)any people have taken much notice of it, and it also seems one of the least human-safety-related areas that are dealt with by BS7671.
