So i bought a house i thought was up together. slowly ive unraveled many potention disastors and fixed them.

Then one day when replacing a light fitting i switched the lights off at the fuse box. i left the wires dangling and accidentially let them touch my head which should be a problem as they were turned off. But as i said this guy was a bodge artist and connected the lights up to a different circult. The shock knocked me off the ladder and left me dazed for a minute or 2.

I'm not sure i'd blame the guy who wired the light up. There isn't any rule that says all lights have to be on the "obvious" circuit.

You should always check something is isolated before working on it. Wherever possible you should confirm that something is live, then isolate it, then confirm it is dead though this isn't always practical.
