We have a Bristan Jute Basin Mixer (Part Number: JU BASNW C) and the handle has become stiff to operate (both on/off and hot/cold.)

The tap is over 7 years old, so out of guarantee, but appears to be a current model http://www.bristan.com/epages/Brist...ducts/"JU BASNW C"/SubProducts/"JU BASNW C^2"

Otherwise the tap is functional, and I’d rather repair it than replace it.

Looking at similar posts, lubricating with silicon grease is suggested - but where, and can this be done without having to remove the tap from the basin?

Help and advice welcomed.

water off and full strip down needed. you should be able to get a new cartridge for it.

Thanks for the prompt reply, mcmoby69.

I have a couple more queries (I'm also adding info for anyone else with the same problem in future.)

Queries: for a "full strip down" what should I do after removing the cartridge? Do I need to get a new cartridge, or should I try cleaning/lubricating it (previous posts for other taps mentioned silicon grease) ?

I have succeeded in removing the tap handle (the grub screw does not seem to have a slot, so I had to jiggle the handle off the square-section nylon stem - maybe I need to get a new handle/screw assembly?)

I thought that removing the shroud would defeat me, but after squirting white vinegar inside & outside, it unscrewed easily (the diagrams on the Bristan website don't make it clear that it is threaded)

you could try cleaning and lubricating, but as its plastic its designed to fail.

contact bristan and get a replacement one ordered, they sometimes crumble when you dismantle them.

There are only a few different cartridges for sink taps (about 4 i think) not sure how many for basin taps.

Thanks again -I'll contact Bristan on Monday (tomorrow.) You've save me taking it apart before I get a replacement.

on the link you posted before, there is a "spares" tab lower down. The new cartridge is very modestly priced.
