I had a new roof 18 months ago. Four of the ridge tiles have blown off. Am I being unreasonable expecting the builder who did the work to replace the tiles free. Nobody else lost roof tiles and I can't help feeling that mine should not have come off after only 18 months. Please advise

I would be on to the roofer to inspect the damage.
I'd also try to obtain photos of any mortar left on the roof tiles and ridges to see if the mortar bedding was ample enough. Also check to see if the mortar is too sandy.

Thanks terrypin for your response. There does not appear to be any mortar on the tiles that fell off. The builder has had a look but he says its due to the wind

Fancy that it being windy on a roof !!!!! of course he should come back and rectify his poor workmanship.

Thanks catlad for you response. That's what I think but he kept banging on about the wind and how it was not down to him. So I just wanted to make sure that it was not unreasonable to expect him to repair the roof free.

If he is an incompetent halfwit, ask around for recommendations of someone who will do a proper job. Take photos of your falling-apart roof and be sure to tell friends and neighbours who did it.

Same happened to me a few years ago and the builder was not interested when I contacted him. Said if I wanted the half dozen ridge tiles replacing then I'd have to pay. Two days later the same thing happened to two neighboring houses. After speaking to the house owners concerned I was delighted to learn that it was the same builder who'd done all three houses.
He eventually admitted that this was more than coincidence and repaired all three. He did however blame "the lad" who'd mixed the cement.
;)
