When I pressed the kitchen light button to switch the light off, I heard a noise and all lights in the house switched off, so I checked the fuse box and flicked the lights switch back up but now the kitchen light doesn't turn on but rest of the lights in the house works

Hi, the fact that it tripped the breaker would indicate a possible fault and not just a lamp or starter replacement, you could replace both, however i suspect you need an electrician as the ballast may have gone pop. It maybe cheaper to replace the light.

Ok. You have had a short circuit or earth fault somewhere.

As you have been able to switch on again and all the other lights are working properly now I would suspect the light fitting or the switch.

Some testing needs to be done to diagnose your fault correctly.
A test for voltage at the fitting using a two pole voltage indicator with the switch in the on position, would be a good starting point.

If voltage between Neutral and Line is measured at around 240V, you have an issue with components of the fitting, if no voltage is indicated, then a look at the switch or any junction/connection concerning this part of the circuit would be the next step.
