Hi all. Bought a house not long ago and in the process of having some work done and our plumber has asked if we have thought about changing our boiler whilst we were having the building work done (the boiler is prob approaching the 10 year mark - its an old British Gas branded Worcester Bosch i'm lead to believe).

He can fit a brand new Baxi Duo-Tec 28 HEA inc flu kit and fit a new radiator and run associated pipework for £950 all inc. I believe these boilers also come with a 7 or 10 year warranty too.

Just wondering if that is a good deal and something to maybe consider? I've no idea what state the boiler is in as to be honest i've never actually had it on as we started building work pretty much straight away when we got the keys.

I've read loads about Baxi boilers, loads of people on the net slate them, loads say they are fine. Just after some balanced opinions on them and if the price quoted seems a good one?

He is making peanuts - so it is a bargain. Assuming he will properly clean the system...........................

If hes gonna do it properly then snap his hand off, make sure system gets flushed properly and the benchmark is filled out.
At that price i would ask Gas Safe for a free inspection afterwards to make sure its kosher.

The duotec is 7 years warranty, i have a platinum which is same boiler with 10years warranty, cracking boiler and reliable just a tad noisy so put it in a cupboard or out of the way!

He did say he wouldn't have them at this price forever as he has managed to source the boilers for pretty cheap and he is already being paid to remove our current boiler etc anyway.

Might take him up on the offer though if it is a good deal and he is going to flush it out etc too.

Nicked boiler or he's full of **** , even if it was nicked if you was any good you wouldn't charge that , looks like you're gonna get a nicked boiler and a ruff arse job either way forget warranty , could be wrong but I doubt it

some fitters will work for peanuts......thats their issue.

customer want a cheap job....thats their issue.

customer then expects top work for peanuts.....that....well...thats just dumb.

anyone who accepts the quote of someone who is willing to do a job at less than 50% of the usual cost......PLEB!!

It's not a stolen boiler. It's a brand new one.

I'm not sure if part of the reason the cost is cheap is that I am already paying him to remove and refit my current boiler once my building work is done and its not that much more work for him to put a new boiler in at the same time.

I'm sure there would be minimal pipework involved as the boiler is going back in the same place on the wall.

Just as an aside from the price of the boiler and work etc mentioned in the thread are these boilers any good? Read quite a lot of negative reviews about Baxi stuff. Is it a brand to avoid?

Just because it's brand new does not mean it hasn't been stolen from a supplier?

So long as you are absolutely sure that everything is as it should be then go for it. It does sound too good to be true and generally, if it looks and sounds like a duck, it's probably a duck.

OK that's a fair point and probably something I'm never going to be able to find out really as i'm sure if I ask if its stolen he is going to say no.

Anyone any thoughts or experiences of the boiler in question? Are they worth going for?

The boiler will be fine. IF it's fitted properly and set up right on a clean system. Is that going to happen though for that price?

Maybe as the OP is having other work done, the £950 is just for supply, not supply + clean + install?

With the clean + install part already encompassed in what the OP is (over?)paying?
