Hello all!

Hoping you can help.

We have just moved house.. the new place has a Worcester Greenstar Ri boiler and a separate hot water tank. The boiler was fitted in April 2012 by a local plumber.

The first night, after we had had the heating on for a while, we noticed that a pump (or what looks like a pump) fitted in the same cupboard as the boiler was buzzing quite loudly - enough to hear from downstairs and too loudly to sleep in the next room.

When I grip the pump housing it is quite warm. Jiggling the casing or the wire for the pump stops the noise but this isn't a long term fix. I have asked the plumber who fitted the boiler to come round next week and have a look; but I would really value a 2nd (3rd... 4th?) opinion on what the trouble might be.

Thank you

Andrew

Thank you... excuse my naivety. Is it ordinary for these to be hot and noisy or is there likely to be a fault? The fact it stops buzzing when I tweak the cable would suggest something isn't quite right.

Not a problem. Just letting you know what it is so you can research it correctly. The noise is not supposed to happen like that and it sounds like the motor is on it's way out, or the wiring needs looking at, but either way, you know what the issue is & hopefully the plumber can just change the actuator and not the whole valve.
