Hi all

Attached pic shows an external tap that needs replacing as it is leaking.

Ive never done a similar job before, so do i just chip away at the caulk they've put over it, and find a join which i then unscrew?!

Also - and im sorry to sound so dumb - but im assuming in turn the water off somehow!?

Sorry, to clarify - the whole thing needs replacing because my hose attachment doesnt fit as well

will the connection be beneath the white caulk stuff?

The connection will be below the surface. However:

a. There is no way of telling how far below, but probably not very far
b. You'd need to make enough space to get tools in to undo connection.
c. Be very careful - could be attached to the end of a piece of lead pipe.
d. The connection could be a soldered on.

If it were me I'd try and find the pipework inside, isolate and cut that. Then remove existing pipe and tap. Widen hole if necessary to get a sleeve through and fit new tap to new pipework with indoor double check valve, isolation valve and drain off point. Join to existing indoor pipework.
