Hi all,

Quick Q, have googled a bit, not turned up any definitive answers.

I had some new rads installed a couple of years ago, and had to remove one of them earlier this year to decorate.

On the threaded connections there was some yellow looking gunk that has a very noticeable smell.

Am looking for some more of whatever this is for when I reconnect the rad.

Is it silicone grease?

Thanks
Ben

Professionals would only use PTFE tape!

Thanks for the replies so far folks.

Andy - even though I'm sure the Fernox white stuff would work fine, I am still curious what it was they used. It's kind of a light yellow grease that seems to have stiffened up over time.

Thanks

There are many different jointing compounds, and identifying yours would be difficult and somewhat needless. Ptfe on the threaded joints and maybe some Fernox on the actual connection.
There's water hawk, hawk white, Boss white, all manner of coloured pastes.

Sounds like LSX, but could be anything.

As has already been said, just use ptfe
